Another Div. I program drops men’s soccer

Mount St. Mary’s University, a member of the Northeast Conference, confirmed Monday that it is dropping men’s soccer among three sports that will cease after this school year.

The Maryland school becomes the third Division I program in the East — second in Maryland — to announce the that it will discontinue men’s soccer this school year. The others are Richmond and Towson.

Mount St. Mary’s has been an NCAA Division I program for nearly 25 years, but its men’s soccer program — on the Division II level before that — has existed for more than 60 years. Without a football program at the school, men’s soccer played the roll of dominant fall sport, in which its Homecoming activities were built around.
