Chivas USA player commits to UCSB

Axel Mendez, a Class of 2014 midfielder prospect from Los Angeles, Calif., confirmed to ESR that he has committed to UC-Santa Barbara.

A citizen of Mexico, Mendez plays for Chivas USA under-15/16s in the Development Academy. He also plays high school soccer for Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.).

Mendez has started in 10 of his 11 Academy matches this season and his five goals rates second on the team.

Mendez told ESR that his other college options were Duke, California, San Diego State, Kentucky and Northwestern.

Cathedral currently is a state-ranked team that has spent time in the EST=R Top 50 this winter season.
