Girls ESR Top 50: Jan. 8

TOP STORY: The Texas public high school season kicks off this week and the current ESR Top 5 will be competing at the National Elite Prep Showcase, co-hosted by Nolan Catholic and Southlake Carroll. The event annually attracts teams from California, Florida and Texas — although this year’s event has limited out-of-state involvement. However, the one school making the trip to the Fort Worth area is No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), where it could strengthen its case for a second national title in three years with a strong showing at the event.

BIG MOVER: None of note as all 50 teams from last week remained in the rankings with some slight movement.

NEWCOMERS: None.

NOTES: The winter season includes the following states: Arizona, California (winter), Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
