Boys ESR Spring Top 50, March 5

TOP STORY: Reigning national champion Norman North (Okla.) opened its season with a victory to stay No. 1 in a week with little change. Other than Alabama and Georgia, most spring states have either just started or are about to start regular-season play this week.

BIG MOVER: Vestavia Hills (Vestavia Hills, Ala.). This perennial Alabama title challenger moved from No. 22 to No. 5 following an 11-0 start, which includes a pair of wins over the state’s preseason No. 1 Oak Mountain squad.

NEWCOMERS: No. 13 Mountain Brook (Mountain Brook, Ala.), No. 27 Greater Atlanta Christian (Atlanta, Ga.), No. 42 Paideia (Atlanta, Ga.), No. 48 Dalton (Dalton, Ga.), No. 49 McCallie School (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and No. 50 East Coweta (Sharpsburg, Ga.).

St. Pius routed Collins Hill 5-0 in a clash of top projected programs in the state. However, a draw with Berkmar costs the team the top ranking among Georgia programs.
