Wando wins before rain interrupts Palmetto Cup

Three of the pre-event favorites won Friday matches before play was halted due to wet and cold weather at the Palmetto Cup.

ESR No. 3 Wando edged Cardinal Newman 2-1 in the first match of the day, followed by a Brookland-Cayce 3-2 win over Gaffney and a Myrtle Beach 4-2 victory over Lexington. The remaining five matches were postponed, and the changes led to a revamped tournament schedule that will skip Saturday’s semifinal round and place the four group winners and in a first-place or third-place match, based on points earned.
