Miguel Jaime had an opportunity to train overseas, but education is keeping him in the U.S., and specifically at Florida Gulf Coast, he told ESR on Tuesday.
The Class of 2014 midfielder prospect from Colorado, who plays for the Colorado Rush in the Development Academy, attends Cherry Creek (Englewood, Colo.), where he helped the school’s 2011 team to Gateway City classic title and a high national ranking until an early postseason loss.
After starting all 19 of his appearances with the Under-15/16 Academy squad during the 2011-12 season, Jaime has played in 13 matches this season.
“I decided that getting an education was also a big deal for me just in case soccer didn’t work out,” he said. “I still hope to play there (in Europe) or here after college.”
He said FGCU offered him a unique opportunity.
“They are an up-and-coming program. The weather is great for soccer and the guys are great there. Coach (Bob) Butehorn is a great man and he cares about his players off the field just as equally as on it.”
