FIU lands Jamaican U20 national team keeper

David Mitchell, a 20-year-old from Jamaica and part of that country’s Under-20 National Team, has signed a national letter of intent to attend and play at Florida International University this fall, ESR learned Thursday.

Mitchell was part of the Jamaican Under-20 squad during November’s Caribbean Nations Under-20 qualifying event where Jamaica won its group to secure a spot in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship. The team eventually lost in the CONCACAF quarterfinal round. Mitchell was not part of the roster for the CONCACAF event.

He attended U.WI. and plays club soccer for Cavalier FC, which, along with Portmore United, combined to provide Jamaica with more than half of its Under-20 National Team roster.
